Covid - What an Opportunity

Covid, what an opportunity for the church to be a model of faith and good works.

Faith which exudes peace and not panic. Faith which trusts the sure promises of God more than it fears the potential tyranny of man. Faith which maintains cool-headed sobriety in the midst of societal chaos. Faith which trusts and obeys, even in the face of trouble and loss.

This sort of faith, in the midst of a troubled and fearful culture would do wonders towards glorifying the God we serve.

What an opportunity for love and good works.

Love which shows empathy toward the suffering of others instead of demanding the removal of our own.

Love which is willing to limit one's own liberty for the well-being of others, instead of decrying imagined persecution.

Love which is willing to suffer and sacrifice alongside others instead of demanding special treatment.

Love which is willing to forgo what is essential, recognizing everyone around us is called to do the same.

What an opportunity for believers to show the difference the Holy Spirit makes in the lives of the transformed.

What an opportunity for good works.

What an opportunity to publicly and lovingly pray for our governmental leaders who themselves are fearful and unsure of how to respond to this trouble.

What an opportunity to show love and support for our struggling governing authorities, instead of impugning their motives at every turn and inciting revolt against them.

What an opportunity to show empathy and support to the men and women who are most at risk, instead of downplaying the reality of the present trouble.

What an opportunity to show understanding towards the anxious and fearful even while we share no such feelings.

What an opportunity to communicate how essential the public gathering is to our faith, and therefore how sacrificial we are willing to be in forgoing it for a time, for the sake of others.

What an opportunity to be the light in the midst of darkness; to be peaceful in the midst of chaos; to be loving in the midst of unrest; to be reasonable in the midst of confusion; and to be sacrificial in the midst of selfishness.

What an opportunity to be Christ to the world. Seize the opportunity fellow believers.

Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. - Philippians 2:14‭-‬16
